Plitvice Lakes: a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Croatia
If you love nothing better than getting out into the great outdoors when you’re on holiday, you’ll definitely want to pay a visit to the Plitvice Lakes National Park when […]
With our Venice day trips, you can experience this incredible city and its world-renowned attractions with expert guides to make your trip relaxing and totally stress-free. Here’s what to expect from your unforgettable day in Venice.
The journey is all part of the adventure on our Venice day trips. Sailing from one of our Croatian ports (Poreč, Rovinj, Pula, Umag or Piran), you’ll spend part of your crossing learning all about the rich history of Venice in preparation for your first visit to this one-of-a-kind city. You’ll be able to buy a delicious breakfast on board to set yourself up for a day of exploring.
Entering the Venetian lagoon, it’s a sedate 45-minute journey through the canals to the port. After clearing passport control, you can choose between boarding a shuttle boat or taking a scenic 40-minute walk into the city centre. Whichever you choose, you’ll have an experienced guide with you to tell you all about the interesting things you pass.
When you arrive in the heart of Venice at around midday, you’ll be treated to a guided tour of St Mark’s Square, home to some of the city’s most iconic sights. The basilica and its famous campanile (bell-tower), the nearby Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs are all among the celebrated landmarks you’ll learn about on your tour. Your guide will explain how to visit these attractions if you’d like to explore them in more depth on your own.
The rest of the day is yours to spend getting to know Venice to your heart’s content. If you’d prefer to continue with an experienced guide, you’ll be able to book further optional excursions, such as lunch or a romantic gondola ride. Alternatively, you could wander off on your own and visit some of the main attractions, such as the Rialto Bridge. You could sample the city’s culinary highlights, such as the mouth-watering cioccolato caldo (hot chocolate), or pick up a second hand book in the famously Instagram-worthy Acqua Alta Bookshop.
Before meeting back at St Mark’s Square for the trip back to your ferry, which leaves at 5.15pm, don’t forget to pick up a souvenir to remind you of the time you visited Venice in a day – buy an exquisite carnival mask from one of the many mask shops, or invest in a beautiful piece of murano glass. You’ll be back in Croatia in time for dinner, full of memories of your incredible day in Venice.
Our unforgettable Venice day trips run from May to September and cost €72 per person. The price includes your catamaran crossings, all port taxes in Croatia and Italy, and a guided of St Mark’s Square; all you’ll need to pay for on the day is any food and drink you fancy, along with entrance fees to any attractions you want to visit (don’t forget that St Mark’s Basilica is free to visit!). You’ll need to bring a valid passport or EU identity document with you on the day, and ensure you have a valid visa if you need one.
